Terms of use

Project Sherlock is a catalogue. It lists works — books, papers, essays, lectures — that already exist, and describes what each one argues. It does not host those works, and it is not a publisher of them.

Entries are editorial opinion about what a work contains and who it is for. They are offered in good faith and checked against bibliographic records, but they are a guide to reading, not professional advice. In particular, nothing catalogued under medicine, law or finance is medical, legal or financial advice.

Browsing is free and requires no account. You may link to any page here, and quote entries with attribution.

Please do not:

• scrape the catalogue wholesale to republish it as your own — the taxonomy and the descriptions took real work;
• place automated load on the site heavy enough to degrade it for other readers;
• attempt to break, probe or circumvent access controls.

Titles, authors and the works themselves belong to their rights holders. Where an entry links to a full text, that link points at a copy the publisher, author or archive has made freely and legally available. We do not link to pirated copies.

If you hold rights in something listed here and want the entry changed or removed, use our contact form and we will deal with it promptly.

The site is provided as it is. We work to keep it accurate and available but do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, nor that every entry is free of error — if you find a mistake, please tell us.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the site. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

These terms may change. The date at the top changes with them, and continuing to use the site means accepting the current version.
